Discover nine ways cordless power impacts workplace design
Respond! desks are mobile, cordless, battery-powered workstations. Desks are contoured to accommodate human reach patterns. Height-Adjustable Consoles adjust from 25” to 44” with single-stage or from 22” to 46” with dual-stage height adjustment.
Console Desks are equipped with 120mm casters to make changes in layout simple. Any placement is possible as there are no concerns about cables, wires, or power outlets. Adjustable-Height Console Desks are equipped with a docking system for the QIKPAC CARRY battery system-USB-C compatible. 120V power is not required at their Console Desks.
No cords on the floor: Respond! can power laptops, monitors, phones–everything necessary to completely remove the need for any cables, cords, or wires on the floor. In other words, battery power is now a feasible solution.
Challenge #1: Removing unsightly cord and cable tangles
Solution: Cordless workstations enable clean floors.
Batteries power laptops, monitors, wireless phone charging, sit/stand mechanisms, 5G hotspots, task lights, UVC disinfection lights, and geo-location tags.
There is little reason to have cords on the floor.
Challenge #2: Reducing initial and future infrastructure costs
Solution: Add the furniture cost for a conventional workstation to the electrical wiring cost for a conventional workstation, then compare that to a cordless workstation.
When you study the total cost of the alternatives, cordless workstations are a better alternative.
In addition, future layout reconfigurations require very little expense.
Challenge #3: Restoring technologically obsolete buildings
Solution: Without extensive requirements for 120V wiring, you avoid structural changes for technology upgrades.
Older buildings that otherwise have limited uses can be re-purposed.
Challenge #4: Reducing the cost to reconfigure space plans
Solution: Cordless furniture designs enable product designers to add mobility features such as casters.
Space plans no longer have to consider placement with respect to outlets and cableways.
Raised floors and under-carpet wiring are not required.
Challenge #5: Reducing project complexity
Solution: Since cordless furniture uses safer, low-voltage batteries, electrical permits, contractors, and inspections are not required.
Reduce or eliminate project delays. Obtain occupancy permits before battery-powered furniture is installed.
Make inevitable future changes with flexible furniture.
Less complexity is valuable to hybrid work organizations uncertain about their future needs.
Challenge #6: Following office ergonomic and safety best practices
Solution: Cordless furniture can incorporate a broad array of ergonomic and safety features.
Batteries can power sit/stand mechanisms.
Sit/stand mechanisms can be paired with user- controlled, personalized mobile apps that prompt movement and record sit/stand activity
Having no cords on the floor eliminates trip hazards and avoids costly workers compensation claims.
Challenge #7: Maintaining power to critical processes
Solution: Cordless furniture can provide resilience to
power interruptions.
Backup generators are expensive and not always practical. Battery power at the workstation level enables specific critical processes to continue to function.
Challenge #8: Demonstrating sustainability leadership
Solution: Batteries provide enough power for a workday and can be charged using off-peak power at night.
Products can be designed using the right materials—recyclable and no banned chemicals in components or manufacturing processes.
Products can be designed for durability and extended life.
Tangible commitments are a talent recruiting advantage.
Challenge #9: Planning for Building Microgrids
Solution: Battery-powered workstations are an important endpoint for on-site microgrid power generation.
Solar and wind generate DC power. Converting DC power to AC power in your building that is subsequently converted back to DC power in desktop devices is wasteful. Microgrid-to- battery solutions can be 30% more efficient.
Building or neighborhood microgrids do not bear the costs of long-distance power transmission. Thus, they produce lower cost energy and add power outage resilience.
